Sound reinforcement With the advent of the Bose L1 Cylindrical Radiator line array system,
The CalypsoNuts have forgone a conventional PA for what we feel is an
exponentionally better sound at all volumes. Mixing in a stereo environment allows us better control of each individual instrument and it's placement in the room. In cases where House PA is preferred or in festival or very large venues, Left and Right line outs are supplied to the venue's audio staff and the Bose becomes our monitor system with mixing still done onstage, but the majority of the volume being controlled by the house. A mono feed is also available. The CalypsoNuts are flexible when it comes to PA and the neccessities of certain venues and sound designers. We do ask, however, that our main rack stay onstage with us, so we can mix our show like we have since 1998. In certain circumstances, we may be flexible here as well, but the sound technician must spend some time with us regarding the important cues, etc. |

Lighting and Special Effects The last few years have allowed lighting suppliers to introduce LED lighting and laptop driven DMX programming to the musical mass market. Most of our lighting is now LED, allowing us to not only program changes in color but to choreograph the lighting cues ourselves. While LED takes a bit longer to set up and tear down, the small amount of current draw allows us to use as many fixtures needed for the venue and not have any problems with tripping breakers. We use electronic lighting fixtures that appear to be burning tiki torches. Appear is important to know. A small electronic fan, white silk and two orange quartz bulbs create the illusion of fire, not REAL fire. These are used most of the time, but not outside when the breeze is strong enough to over-ride the fans and blow the silks down. Lighting is controlled from the stage by us and is an integral part of our main rack. Of course, flexibility plays a large part when it comes to larger venues or venues with a fixed theme or lighting technician. Any questions with regards to lighting are welcome. |

Electrical Requirements The CalypsoNuts require at least one 15 amp 120 volt circuit with two being preferred.. The efficiency of both the Bose L1 Cylindrical Radiators and the LED light requires less power than conventional PA and lighting. We do ask that the source of the power be within 25 feet of the stage area and clear of any other load if at all possible. In other words, Please don't supply us with 150' extension cord. While a short, 25' run with out very heavy drop cables are generally no problem, longer runs with thinner homeowner type extensions tend to overheat and cause varying degrees of voltage drop. The electricity supplied must be grounded and dry. Yes, please ask any questions. |
While staging is preffered, we understand sometimes (weddings for instance) that stages are not available and we must set up on the floor. This is fine inside, but outside we need to be off bare ground. Concrete or decking is fine, dirt or grass isn't. When outside, cover is important for a few reasons. 1: Steel drums and Steel drummers wilt in direct sunlight.Steel drums in direct sunlight go out of tune and so do the steel drummers. 2: Cover is also important in case of the unexpected rain shower. Steelpans
don't mind a nice rinse every now and then, but electronics hate water. |
